Pellestrina
This island is a narrow barrier only 11 km long between the Adriatic Sea and the Lagoon, protected from the invasion of the raging waters by the Murazzi, a powerful seawall constructed by the Venetian Republic in the XVIII century. The seashore so reinforced safeguards the small fishermen’s villages, full of sounds, voices and echoing calls, that face the opalescent waters of the Lagoon: San Pietro in Volta, Portosecco (a port in the past, now choked into the sand), the cart tracks of Sant’Antonio and Pellestrina. Trimmed with vegetable gardens and small colourful houses, the island is a gem of nature and of human ingenuity, a fascinating place where the relation between man and the Lagoon is still fast and the human activities are numerous but respectful of its delicate ecosystem: hunting, fishing, agriculture, and tourism. Don’t be surprised at seeing groups of women who sit gossiping and embroidering on their doorsteps, quickly jiggling their bobbins, surrounded by intense ad forgotten fragrances, beside a lagoon offering gorgeous sunsets. This enchanting place allows the tourists to exercise and relax by biking along nature trails, preferably at dusk, when the sun is setting, blinking on the verge of waters.

Il Lido è la località balneare meno affollata dell'Alto Adriatico. Se in passato era frequentata dalla nobiltà europea, oggi è l'ideale meta turistica per chi vuole abbinare il turismo culturale a una rilassante vacanza al mare.
