Two long jetties delimit the two openings along the coastline at the northern end (San Nicolò jetty) and the southern end (Alberoni jetty) of the island where the sea and the lagoon come into contact. The two inlets allow access for the ships bound to Venice port. On the two jetties the works of the M.O.S.E.S. system are being realized to protect Venice and its lagoon from flooding in the event of high water. Virtual visits to the works sites can be organized.
