Venice Lido, blue flagged beaches

2010, the Lido beach takes on a blue tinge. The tinge of a valuable blue texture. After Caorle, Bibione, Eraclea, Jesolo and Cavallino Treporti, the Veneto coast earns for the second year the prestigious award for one of its seaside resorts: the Venice Lido has been awarded the blue flag, the most important international quality label dealing with the environmental management of the beaches, assigned by FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education). This award was established in 1987 and is being yearly assigned in various European and Extra-European countries to beach resorts meeting the criteria fixed by an International Jury that takes into exam a series of key indicators of the environmental management, starting from education and correct information about bathing water quality, coastal zone eco-systems, naturalistic areas and a minimum offer of 5 environmental education activities every year. Not less important are the criteria evaluating the bathing water quality, a correct environmental management (a beach management committee must be established) enforcing the beach code of conduct and, finally, safety services including an adequate number of lifeguards and emergency plans to cope with pollution and other safety menaces.
